As you may know, H.Con.Res. 200 highlights Taiwan's relationship with China and the U.S. and expresses Congress's concern about the ballistic missile deployment directed by the Chinese government toward Taiwan that threatens security and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The resolution also states that Taiwan's future should be determined peacefully, free from coercion and with the consent of Taiwan's people. I am a strong supporter of Taiwan and a member of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus. I believe that the people of Taiwan have the right to express their opinions in referenda and other fora that are consistent with Taiwanese law. I also believe that the government of China should not attempt to interfere with Taiwan's democratic process, especially by threatening Taiwan in an effort to intimidate the island's electorate.
