基本上Will Tiao從簡短介紹台灣的歷史﹐到他的父母以及朋友來美國後因為支持台灣獨立而被職業學生盯上﹐ 有的人在台灣的家人被國民黨騷擾﹐ 有的人上了黑名單﹐ 有的甚至被暗殺﹐ 這也是為什麼他會開始研究以及收集這些歷史寫了這個故事。。。。他也提到﹐ 電影在泰國拍攝的﹐ 有幾個原因﹕ 因為台灣改變太多﹐ 很難可以找到20年前的街道。 製作經費不是太多﹐ 泰國比較便宜。 這部電影的政治敏感度太高﹐08年馬英九上臺﹐ 要在台灣拍攝實在是很困難。 Will 強調﹐ 這不是一個記錄片﹗
演講是英文的﹐ 我實在不想翻譯﹐ 所以﹐ 聽的懂的朋友應該會覺得有趣﹐ 聽不懂的朋友就直接看第6和第七﹐有電影影射美麗島事件。 我第一次看到時﹐ 一直哭﹐ 因為小時候我的父母都會去參加黨外抗議活動﹐ 因為我還小﹐ 父母不讓我去﹐ 而且家裡還有4個妹妹要人照顧。 那個時候的陣暴就是給你打﹐ 不管你是男﹐是女﹐ 是小孩還是大人﹐ 就是給你打﹐ 小我一歲的妹妹有一次和父母參加活動﹐ 竟然警察還要打我11歲的妹妹﹐ 要不是一群大人圍上去﹐ 我妹早就被打了。 我的記憶裡﹐ 每次父母去參加活動時﹐ 我都很害怕﹐ 不知道他們會不會被抓﹐ 會不會受傷﹐ 尤其爸爸年輕時是很壯﹐ 都是負責保護信介仙他們這些帶頭的﹐ 或是負責擋警察﹐ 有多危險﹐會不會出事﹐讓才12歲的我很害怕。
Filmmaker, activist and former White House negotiator Will Tiao presents a look at Taiwan's politics, conspiracies, and scandals from a unique insider's perspective. His years of research into the brutal techniques once employed by the Republic of China government to silence Taiwan democracy supporters has become the basis for the controversial new film Formosa Betrayed.
Starring James Van Der Beek and Tiao and directed by Adam Kane (Heroes), Formosa Betrayed marks the very first time an American movie has explored the contentious issue of Taiwan independence. Tiao will discuss the true events that inspired the film as well as the challenges faced in bringing these stories to the big screen. Additionally, Tiao will preview exclusive footage from Formosa Betrayed and answers questions from the audience.
